Marina Shores is a
Trojan Horse
Dear Editor:
I'm a Redwood
City renter who has been struggling to afford a decent home here.
My household income is low six-figures, yet I will not qualify
for even the so-called "affordable" housing at this skyscraper
development. And those are only 193 out of 1,900 planned units!
Perhaps that's
too bad for me, but it's also too bad for anyone else who hopes
to buy a new home in this community. That's because this luxury
skyrise project will squander even more of our scarce water. That
water is required for future development elsewhere in the city
such as downtown, where the growth should be focused, not sprawling
on the Bayfront.
But this is
not just self-interest. I care enough about the quality of life
for all of us in this community to have read the Environmental
Impact Report, the Project Precise Plan, and the city's Staff
Report (online at www.no-on-q.org) and
what I've learned has me outraged. I learned that the claims about
traffic solutions, water use, and "new" open space that is touted
in the "Yes on Q" materials are lies --across the board. I don't
appreciate our City Council lying to sneak a bad project by the
community's check-and-balances, and it makes me wonder what their
true motives are.
If I cannot
afford to buy my home here, I'll remain in this community, but
believe me I will work to replace the irresponsible city government
that Redwood City has today. Please join me in voting NO on Q.
